Module goal - Knowledge and skill to be achieved by students

Course objective is to make possible for students to practically realise microprocessor-based system of general application. An emphasis is put on microprocessor-basis selection, realisation of projects in laboratory conditions with time-intervals given in advance, independence in work, use of literature, creativity, and team-work.

Syllabus

Students can make their realisation in regard to final work, a concrete project; they can work alone or in a team or solve the tasks independently of the ways suggested above. Students can suggest the tasks they want to solve, or they can choose from the tasks suggested by a teacher. Final result of student's work should be realised hardware application based on IC with CPU and description of realisation given in the form of documentation or project report (set up of the task, theoretical foundation needed for solving the task, mathematical model of the task, electrical schemes and documentation, code of the realised program). Selection of hardware and software equipment for realisation of specific project is student's choice; students can choose components available in the college resources, or they provide hardware and software by themselves (project resources, sponsors, free software).

Literature

Recommended1. Lecture notes and slides (will be available at the Web site)

Additional

Didactic methods

Students have only one introductional lecture (3 hours), where details for technology work on practicum are defined, examples of project realisations are shown and project assignments are shown. The rest of the course students perform in laboratories, minimum of 55 hours, in groups of maximum ten students. One hour per week students have obligatory consultations with the teacher. On these consultations existing problems and verbal reports on project development are presented. These consultations are held for every particular assignment.

Exams

Through the course, student gains points according to following system.
Attendance to laboratories and consultations: 20 points, student who does not realise 80% of planned hours (laboratory work plus consultations) - cannot get points for these activities.
Project task: maximum 80 points: system hardware valorisation - 30 points, project documentation - 30 points, project presentation - 20 points.
Student which during the course does not realise project task gets additional hours in the laboratory, in the weeks for corrective examination preparation (20 hours). After finishing additional hours, if student has not finished given task, he/she has to take the course again. Exceptions can be made only for students whose tasks are connected to their final project. In this case, rules on final project ending terms are in force.
